Prominent South Carolina Evangelical Charged With Raping Woman After Giving Her ‘Date Rape’ Drug
A millionaire South Carolina real estate developer and former board member of local Episcopal school has been arrested and charged with raping a woman after reportedly slipping something into her wine that caused her to pass out, local NBC affiliate WYFF reported Tuesday.
Fifty-nine-year-old Marcus Sewell McCall was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct over the attack which occurred in early October, according to the report.
McCall, a devout Christian, is the principal owner and managing member of McCall Capital LLC, an asset management and development firm based in Greenville with assets valued at an estimated $200 million.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that McCall drugged the woman with a substance commonly referred to as the “date rape” drug.
The unidentified woman described McCall giving her a glass of wine, after which she said she felt disoriented before falling in and out of consciousness.
The woman told investigators she discovered evidence she had been sexually assaulted when she woke up.
