A Giant Dog Statue With Trumpian Characteristics Just Appeared Outside Chinese Mall
People in China are poking fun at Donald Trump by erecting a giant dog statue that resembles the erratic president outside a shopping mall to usher in the Lunar New Year.
The massive Trump-like dog, featuring golden hair and eyebrows and an index finger pointing to the sky corresponds with 2018 being the year of the dog in the Chinese zodiac. Trump, 71, was born in the year of the dog, which occurs every 12 years.
A giant rooster statue styled to look like Trump was placed outside the mall at the end of 2016 to ring in the year of the rooster.
Trump spent much of his presidential campaign blasting China for taking advantage of America on trade, saying “we can’t continue to allow China to rape our country.”
He broke with that rhetoric during his visit to China in November, saying blamed past administrations for “unfair” trade practices.
“After all, who can blame a country for being able to take advantage of another country for benefit of their citizens? I give China great credit,” he said during an event in Beijing.
But Trump took a stronger stance toward China in his recently unveiled national security strategy.
Here’s how they responded:
