Another Top GOP Lawmaker Just Announced He Won’t Run For Re-Election In 2018
Following the wave of Congressional Republicans who have decided to leave Congress for good, House Financial Services Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) announced Tuesday that he won’t run for re-election at the end of his term.
“Today I am announcing that I will not seek reelection to the US Congress in 2018. Although service in Congress remains the greatest privilege of my life, I never intended to make it a lifetime commitment, and I have already stayed far longer than I had originally planned,” Hensarling told supporters in a statement, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Hensarling follows seven other House Republicans and two Republican senators — Bob Corker (Tenn.) and Jeff Flake (Ariz.) — who have announced their plans to retire next year citing Donald Trump’s toxic presidency.
