A shooting just occurred at the Fort Lauderdale airport, leaving multiple people dead and several wounded.
Authorities have arrested the gunman, who seemed to have been acting alone. He is in custody as of now.
Reports show that five people are dead, eight more are wounded and are being transported to the hospital. Multiple reports on social media — including tweets from former White House spokesman Ari Fleischer, described the shooting.
Gene Messina told CNN he’d arrived at the airport as people were being evacuated from the terminal. “I got off the plane and I saw people running and screaming,” he said. “At first I was in shock but when I saw TSA agents running, I booked.”
It seems that the shooting occurred at the baggage claim area of Terminal 2, according to officials. The gunman’s motive for the shooting has yet to be known, but Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief told CNN that the investigators are looking into it.
