Ex-Soviet Intel Officer Was Also Present At Trump Tower Meeting: Report
The Russia scandal engulfing the Trump administration is getting bigger by the minute. On Friday, several news outlets reported that a former Soviet counter-intelligence officer with close ties to Vladimir Putin was in the meeting with Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer in June 2016, in which Trump Jr. was promised damaging information on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
U.S. officials believe the former intelligence officer has strong ties to the Kremlin, NBC News reported.
The latest revelation comes after The New York Times reported Trump Jr. had set up a meeting with Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya.
After being caught in a lie, the president’s son released a chain of emails detailing his conversations setting up the meeting.
The information “would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father,” reads one of the emails from Goldstone.
“This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump,” the publicist continued.
“If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer,” Trump Jr. replied.
President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort were also present for the meeting.
Experts across the political spectrum are pointing to the meeting as proof that Trump’s campaign sought to collude with Moscow amid its efforts to meddle in last year’s election.
