Fox News Host Promoted By Trump Just Called Paul Ryan To Step Down
It seems that president Donald Trump has devised a new way to retaliate against people within his own party. On Saturday evening, Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro, whose show Trump urged his followers on Twitter to watch earlier in the day, opened her program on Saturday evening by calling on House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) to step down.
“Ryan needs to step down as Speaker of the House,” Pirro said in her opening statement. “The reason, he failed to deliver the votes on his healthcare bill, the one trumpeted to repeal and replace ObamaCare.”
“You come in with all your swagger and experience and sell them a bill of goods which ends up a complete and total failure and you allow our president, in his first 100 days, to come out of the box like that, based on what?” Pirro said.
Pirro’s fiery comments about Ryan came hours after Trump tweeted to encourage his followers to watch her Fox News show “Justice with Judge Jeanine.”
Following Pirro’s remarks, a wave of the speculation started to spreading across Capitol Hill that probably president Trump had told the Fox News host to call Paul Ryan to step down. However, Pirro denied the charge.
“I have not spoken with the president about any of this,” the Fox News host said of her call for Ryan to step down on her show.
On Friday, Ryan was forced to pull the GOP healthcare reform bill, the American Health Care Act because it lacked support among House Republicans.
The embarrassing move marked Trump’s first legislative defeat as president and followed seven years of rhetoric from Republicans who campaigned on a pledge to repeal and replace former President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law.
Initially, Trump blamed Democrats, though House leaders never made serious attempts to compromise with Democrats on the AHCA. But he shifted the blame to House conservatives on a tweet on Sunday.
“Democrats are smiling in D.C. that the Freedom Caucus, with the help of Club For Growth and Heritage, have saved Planned Parenthood & Ocare!” Trump wrote.
Pirro insisted in her first segment that the failure was on Ryan and not on Trump.
During the presidential campaign, Trump boasted that he alone could fix everything in Washington. He even claimed to know “more than the generals” about winning the war on terror. The Fox News host seemed to agree with him back then. Now, however, Pirro is singing a different tune.
“No one expected a businessman to completely understand the nuances, the complicated ins and outs of Washington and its legislative process,” she said
“Folks, I want to be clear. This is not on President Trump,” she said before adding: “Ryan’s got to go.”
