George Clooney Asked Trump The One Thing On Everyone’s Mind
Actor George Clooney is weighing in on President-elect Donald Trump’s comments about Meryl Streep following her speech at the Golden Globes. Trump lashed out at the actress via Twitter on Monday calling her “one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood.”
At a reception in London for “The White Helmets,” a Netflix documentary on Syrian first responders, which was hosted by The Clooney Foundation for Justice on Monday, Clooney addressed the controversy and posed a question to Donald Trump that’s been on everyone’s mind:
“Aren’t you supposed to be running the country?”
Uh, yeah, isn’t he?
Clooney was responding to a question about Trump’s response to Meryl Streep’s Golden Globes acceptance speech.
In the speech on Sunday, Streep called out Trump for mocking a disabled reporter in 2015. Many lauded the speech. Trump wasn’t a fan.
Rather than using his time to focus on more pressing issues, the president-elect rushed to Twitter to respond, writing that Streep was “one of the most over-rated actresses.”
Thousands of fans quickly came to Streep’s defense, though they really didn’t have to. Streep’s accolades are innumerable. In fact, Trump called her “excellent” years earlier. As Ben Affleck told Jimmy Kimmel, “If you look up in the Encyclopedia a great actress, there’s a picture of Meryl Streep.”
Instead of using his voice to talk about the nation’s priorities, Mr. Trump continues to engage in childish behavior.
So, Trump, aren’t you supposed to be running the country?
