GOP Lawmaker Busted. FBI Seizes Records And Computers As Part Of Probe Into Campaign Finance Fraud
According to a Los Angeles Times report on Wednesday, Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.)’s campaign treasurer’s computers and records were seized by the FBI back in February as a part of their investigation into whether he was part of finance fraud.
The investigation was first made public back in March, when Hunter denied any charges against him being part of finance fraud.
“I was not involved in any criminal action,” Hunter said. “Maybe I wasn’t attentive enough to my campaign. That’s not a crime.”
According to the Times report, a warrant was issued for the the offices of Election CFO, which is a company that provides campaign finance law compliance.
The warrant “reveals new information about the federal investigation into Hunter’s campaign spending.”
Hunter is in danger of losing his seat in 2018. He’s drawn more than half a dozen opponents so far, including two Republicans.
