Republicans are in the midst of doing away with President Obama’s Affordable Care Act(ACA) and they’ve announced that while doing so, they’ll also strip funding from Planned Parenthood.
According to Arstechnica.com “the reconciliation bill is the budgetary tool that Republicans plan to use to dismantle the ACA with a simple majority and without the potential for a filibuster. A straight repeal would require a 60-vote supermajority in the Senate, which the Republicans don’t have. A straight repeal would also open the possibility of a filibuster.”
In a press conference held on Thursday, Paul Ryan gave confirmation about Republicans’ plan to get rid of Planned Parenthood. “Planned Parenthood legislation would be in our reconciliation bill” when asked about potential defunding.
“Defunding Planned Parenthood is dangerous to people’s health, it’s unpopular, and it would leave people across the country without care,” president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Cecile Richards, said in a statement responding to Ryan’s comments.
Republicans have set their mind on doing away with Planned Parenthood after false evidence, release by notorious anti-choice propagandist Daniel Daleidan, of misleadingly doctored videos which purported to show evidence of fetal tissue sales.
Those videos were put to rest after Planned Parenthood showed no evidence of any wrongdoing. And Republicans will not listen to the facts, no matter how many times one might tell the unwashed peasants of the House, Planned Parenthood does not use federal funding for abortions. Abortions make up 3% of what Planned Parenthood does.
