Texas Sheriff Threatens Criminal Charges For Driver Of Truck With Anti-Trump Sticker
Freedom of speech came under attack in Texas when the Sheriff of Fort Bend County threatened criminal charges against the owner of a pickup truck with a sticker against President Donald Trump.
As reported by KPRC 2 News in Houston, Republican Sheriff Troy Nehls posted a photo of a pickup truck’s back window sticker that reads, “F*ck Trump and F*ck you for voting for him.”
KPRC legal analyst Brian Wice explained Sheriff Nehls was wrong about the law and that the 1971 case of Cohen v. California settled the issue before the United States Supreme Court.
“I have received numerous calls regarding the offensive display on this truck as it is often seen along FM 359. If you know who owns this truck or it is yours, I would like to discuss it with you. Our Prosecutor has informed us she would accept Disorderly Conduct charges regarding it, but I feel we could come to an agreement regarding a modification to it,” Sheriff Nehls posted on facebook (read post below).
