The Women’s College Basketball Champions Just Declined Trump’s Invitation To The White House
President Donald Trump’s attempt to score some points failed miserably after the University of South Carolina women’s basketball on Thursday rejected his invitation to the White House to celebrate their 2017 NCAA championship.
USC head coach Dawn Staley released a statement saying the team will not be visiting the White House.
“We did hear from the White House about attending tomorrow’s event, but we will not be able to attend,” Staley said. “As I’ve been saying since our practices for this season started, all of our focus is on the season ahead. The only invitation we are thinking about is to the 2018 NCAA Tournament.”
Another NCAA championship team, the University of North Carolina men’s basketball team, also declined Trump’s invitation the White House, citing scheduling issues, according to The Hill.
President Trump has sparked a backlash from some of the biggest names in professional sports for attacking football players who refuse to stand during the national anthem in protest of racial injustice.
