A church based in Sacramento, California, decided to ignore orders from the state to stay at home during the coronavirus pandemic and now their followers are paying the price.
According to The Sacramento Bee, Bethany Slavic Missionary Church, near Rancho Cordova, has 71 members infected – including the pastor.
The report also stated that one of those members has passed away from the virus.
Sacramento health officials have repeatedly tried to convince church leaders to change course via phone and personal visits.
Those same officials have frown frustrated with the church for ignoring orders.
“They’ve basically told us to leave them alone,” said Sacramento County Health Chief Dr. Peter Beilenson. “This is extremely irresponsible and dangerous for the community.”
