Trump Not Invited To Meet Queen During UK Visit Because ‘It Would Cause Embarrassment’: Report
President Donald Trump will visit Britain on official business in February 2018 — but will not meet the Queen, several news outlets revealed last week.
Trump is using the trip to open the US embassy in London and will meet Theresa May. However, according to the Daily Mail newspaper, he will not be invited to meet Queen Elizabeth after nearly 2 million people signed a petition arguing that his visit would “cause embarrassment to the Queen.”
The president and the prime minister instead discussed a ‘working visit’ to London, which is penciled in for late February.
The President’s visit to the UK comes despite a series of public clashes with Mrs. May, including a major row last month when the Prime Minister condemned Trump’s decision to re-tweet anti-Muslim propaganda from far-Right group Britain First.
Ever since British Prime Minister Theresa May invited Trump for a state visit, there has been lots of controversy surrounding the proposed visit.
Close to 2 million citizens have signed a petition saying that Trump’s invitation should be retracted since it “would cause embarrassment” to the Queen, and there are certain to be a multitude of protests, posing both safety and traffic issues.
Do you think Trump’s visit would be an embarrassment to the Queen?
