A Dumb Fight Just Broke Up Between Trump And McConnell
Even as the White House struggles to clean up the mess created by President Trump’s dangerous “fire and fury” response to the news that North Korea may have miniaturized a nuclear weapon, the erratic president decided to start a very public fight with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
“Senator Mitch McConnell said I had ‘excessive expectations,’ but I don’t think so,” the erratic president tweeted Wednesday afternoon. “After 7 years of hearing Repeal & Replace, why not done?”

Trump’s angry tweet came after Mitch McConnell suggested on Tuesday that Trump doesn’t really understand how Congress works and blamed him for the perception that Republicans are failing to govern.
“Our new President, of course, has not been in this line of work before,” said McConnell, according to a local CNN affiliate, which covered the event. “I think he had excessive expectations about how quickly things happen in the democratic process.”
Beyond the overreaction, it’s baffling that Trump is now picking a fight with the most powerful man in the US Senate. Remember that for everything that Trump wants going forward —tax reform, funding for the border wall, maybe even another shot at health care —he needs McConnell. Badly.
Maybe Trump has some sort of crazy plan here. But from where I sit, I just don’t see it. But let’s enjoy the popcorn as they destroy each other.
