According To Recent Emails, Trump’s Transition Team Has Been Completely Ignoring Ethics Office Since The Election

Trump and his team will most likely be known as the most corrupt administration in history. From denying U.S. intelligence to ignoring the office of Government Ethics(OGE), the Trump administration is simply careless.

According to emails contained by NBC News, Trump’s transition team has been ignoring the OGE since the election. OGE Director Walter Shaub stated: “We seem to have lost contact with the Trump-Pence transition since the election.”

Trump’s team may raise a risk of inadvertently breaking federal rules for “announcing cabinet picks” without letting the ethics office review their financial information in advance. “They run the risk of having inadvertently violated the criminal conflicts of interest restriction at 18 USC 208. If we don’t get involved early to prevent problems, we won’t be able to help them after the fact.”

Richard Painter, former ethics lawyer for President George W. Bush, says the email exchanges suggest the ethics office is “trying to touch base so they can take these issues seriously,” while the Trump transition team evinces less “desire to sit down and work through the issues.”

It seems as if the they have no care in the world and will do whatever they want, which will eventually cause them a lot of trouble. Trump’s best interest seems to be in his business, which he has made no progress in divesting himself from despite promises to the contrary.

“Conspicuously absent is any evidence of the preparations allegedly being undertaken by President-Elect Trump to resolve potential conflicts of interest through some manner of divestment. If the President-Elect’s lawyers and compliance officers are not coordinating with OGE, who, if anyone, within the government are they coordinating on these matters?” said federal employment lawyer Bradely Moss.

The growing concern of the American people is not about whether or not the new administration will violate ethics laws. The concern is that nothing will be done about it.
