Adam Schiff Just Dropped The Hammer On Trump: ‘He Should Be Indicted’
California Rep. and chairman of the House intelligence committee Adam Schiff said on Tuesdaythat he supports House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision not to impeach Donald Trump.
But he also added that there is already sufficient evidence to indict the president, claiming that he would support an indictment even before the conclusion of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
Schiff pointed out Michael Cohen’s testimony where he confirmed that “Individual 1” is Trump, who directed and coordinated a campaign fraud scheme.
“It’s very difficult to make the argument that the person who was directed and was coordinated should go to jail but the person who did the directing and did the coordinating should not,” Schiff told reporters at a breakfast on Tuesday organized by the Christian Science Monitor.
The evidence therefore already in place argues “very strongly in favor of indicting the president when he is out of office,” he added.
According to current Justice Department guidelines, a sitting president is prohibited from being indicted. But Schiff argued on Tuesday that those rules need to be changed.
“The Justice Department policy against indictment is the wrong policy, particularly when there is any risk that the statute of limitations may allow a president to escape justice,” the chairman said.
“I see little to be gained by putting the country through that kind of wrenching experience as I’ve often remarked in the past,” he then told reporters regarding the impeachment of Trump. “The only thing worse than putting the country through the trauma of an impeachment is putting the country through the trauma of a failed impeachment.”
