And Just Like That, Trump Goes Back To Sucking Up To The NRA

Donald Trump shocked an entire country when he claimed that he was in favor of more extensive background checks for people trying to purchase guns shortly after 31 people died in two mass shootings earlier this month.

But to no surprise, Trump backed out of his original claims when he spoke the press before returning to Washington from vacation at his golf resort in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Trump told the press that extensive background checks are not needed because the laws already work as they are.

“People don’t realize we have very strong background checks right now,” he said. “If you go in and buy a gun, you have to sign up. There are a lot of background checks that have been approved over the years. So I’ll have to see what it is.”

He then referred once more to a “big mental problem.”

Asked again about his own position on background checks, Trump replied, “I’m not saying anything.”
