Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT), who has been known to criticize the president in the past, took to Twitter on Friday to condemn Donald Trump after he openly asked Ukraine and China to dig up dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.
Romney had first called allegations from the whistleblower complaint “troubling in the extreme” but cautioned that more time was needed to investigate the president’s call to Ukraine. That was back on September 22.
But now, the Republican senator has come out to call Trump’s actions wrong.
“When the only American citizen President Trump singles out for China’s investigation is his political opponent in the midst of the Democratic nomination process,” Romney tweeted, “it strains credulity to suggest that it is anything other than politically motivated.”
“By all appearances, the President’s brazen and unprecedented appeal to China and to Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden is wrong and appalling,” Romney tweeted.
