Republican Senator Rand Paul, who once referred to socialized medicine as “slavery,” is about to take a trip to Canada to get some first-hand experience on how it works.
According to The Louisville Courier-Journal, Paul will be traveling to Canada later this month to get surgery on an injured hernia. The irony is that the Republican Senator once called Canada’s single-payer healthcare system “slavery.”
The report states that Paul is scheduled to have a hernia operation at the Shouldice Hernia Hospital in Thornhill, Ontario next week.
Paul has been a heavy critic of former President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act and Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) proposal of the Medicare for All bill.
“With regard to the idea whether or not you have a right to health care… It means you believe in slavery,” Paul said back in 2011. “You are going to enslave not only me but the janitor at my hospital, the person who cleans my office, the assistants, the nurses… you are basically saying you believe in slavery.”
