Van der Zwaan is a London-based attorney who was hired by former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort to draft a report for pro-Russia client Viktor Yanukovych to justify the imprisonment of his political rival.
The attorney pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Mueller’s investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia. He stated that he lied about the last time he spoke to former Trump campaign associate Rick Gates.
Van der Zwaan reportedly lied to the FBI and special counsel investigators about his last conversation with Gates, in mid-August 2016.
Gates is expected to plead guilty to money laundering and other charges in the probe.
