Bannon Is Livid After Cummings Called Him Out For Being A ‘White Supremacist-Type Person’
Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) spoke Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” on the 49th anniversary of King’s assassination in 1968. He stated that White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon is a white supremacist-type person.” Adding that Martin Luther King Jr. would be “very disappointed” at the Trump administration.
“In a way, he would be pleased to have seen the first African-American elected president, to have seen many doors opened for people like me and others who now have opportunities that would not have had them back then,” Cummings said.
“But at the same time, when we see a guy like Bannon, who is, as far as I’m concerned, a white supremacist-type person, sitting in the White House — sitting in the White House — and I’m paying his salary, I think he would be very disappointed,” he added.
This isn’t the first time Cummings bashes on Bannon for his white supremacist ways. Back in November he tweeted:
“Leading white nationalists like David Duke have praised Steve Bannon. Donald Trump should rescind his appointment. #NoHateinWhiteHouse.”
Cummings was also one of the more than 150 House Democrats members that signed a petition urging Trump to revoke Bannon’s appointment.
Bannon has been hit with criticism for the fact that he was the executive chairman of the far-right Breitbart News, which has gained traction among some white nationalists.
