After a historic Senate run in the deep red state of Texas, former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) left people wondering if he would be running for president in 2020.
On Tuesday, clips from his interview with Oprah Winfrey were obtained by the media. In those clips, O’Rourke said that he would be making his formal decision on running for president by the end of February.
The former Congressman said that he has been “thinking” about running but wants to do what’s best for his family.
“The serious answer is really soon, before the end of this month,” O’Rourke reportedly said during an appearance on “Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations from Times Square.”
“I have been thinking about running for president,” the former congressman added, according to The Texas Tribune. “I want to make sure that we’re all good with this. … For me, it will really be family.”
O’Rourke was only a few votes away from winning his Senate bid against Republican Senator Ted Cruz in one of the deepest red states in the country.
Democrats are hoping for a presidential run from O’Rourke as he could bring the dynamic that could take down Donald Trump in 2020.
