In a ‘CBS This Morning’ interview Tuesday, U2’s singer-songwriter and Human rights activist Bono called Donald Trump “the worst idea that ever happened to America.”
When asked about the possibility that Donald Trump could become the president of the United States, Bono told host Charlie Rose:
“Look, America is like the best idea the world ever came up with. But Donald Trump is potentially the worst idea that ever happened to America.”
Bono referenced countries like Great Britain and Ireland as examples of great governments but he said that America is different for being founded on an idea. One in which Trump is “trying to hijack,” he said.
“That idea is bound up in justice and equality for all — equality and justice for all, you know?” he said. “I think he’s hijacked the party, and I think he’s trying to hijack the idea of America. And I think it’s bigger than all of us. I think it’s — this is really dangerous.”
Bono also discussed the way he got into activism was through the music U2 created. “Our music was always wrapped around social justice,” he told Rose.
