Now we know: Russia apparently worked very hard to get Donald Trump elected, and Trump’s reaction has triggered an extraordinary response from the intelligence community.
On Friday, The Washington Post reported that the CIA had definitively concluded that Russia was behind these hacks, not merely to sow chaos and destabilization but to help Donald Trump win the election.
Yesterday we reported on an extraordinary meeting on Capitol Hill in mid-September, when FBI Director James Comey, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson and other officials met with the leadership of both parties. They made the case for a bipartisan statement sending a warning to Russia that such actions would not be tolerated.
But in an apparent act of treason, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked the resolution, citing “doubts” about the underlying intelligence and made clear to the administration that he would consider any effort by the White House to challenge the Russians publicly an act of partisan politics.
Trump’s response and McConnell’s move to block a congressional investigation has angered some CIA agents with one official allegedly calling for Donald Trump’s security credentials to be revoked.
Now a former CIA operative is calling for new elections.
Appearing on CNN, former CIA agent Robert Baer told the network that if the spy agency can prove that Russia interfered with the 2016 election then the “US should vote again.”

Do you agree with Officer Baer?
