BREAKING: More Than 50 Dead, 200 Injured In Las Vegas Mass Shooting
More than 50 people are dead and 200 others injured after automatic gunfire broke out at a country music festival in Las Vegas, several news outlets reported early Monday.
The suspect, identified as Stephen Paddock, 64, fired from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay, while Jason Aldean was performing at the end of the three-day Route 91 Harvest Festival, which reportedly draws 30,000 attendees, The Washington Post reports.
Aldean was rushed off stage and said later in an Instagram post that he is safe. He called the attack “beyond horrific.”
Sheriff Joe Lombardo told reporters authorities believe Paddock was a “lone wolf” attacker and that they have located Marilou Danley, the suspect’s roommate, who has been described as a person of interest in the shooting,
“It’s a devastating time,” Lombardo said at a news conference early Monday, according to the Post.
“We have responded to the scene, and we’re doing the best we can to provide safety to the survivors.”
Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) said the attack was a “senseless, horrifying act of violence” and thanked police and first responders.
“Senseless, horrifying act of violence in Las Vegas tonight. Praying for all the victims & those impacted by the tragedy,” Heller tweeted.
Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval (R) also tweeted that his prayers are with those affected by the violence.
“A tragic & heinous act of violence has shaken the #Nevada family,” he tweeted. “Our prayers are w/ the victims & all affected by this act of cowardice.”
It’s time to talk about the proliferation of firearms in the United States.
