Chance The Rapper Just Burned Trump After He Thanked Him For ‘Support’

Grammy-winning artist Chance the Rapper took to Twitter on Friday to respond and correct the record after President Trump praised him on Twitter, saying that he would “never support anyone who has made a career out of hatred.”

In a tweet earlier Friday, Trump praised Chance saying that he “really gets it,” after Chance tweeted that “black people don’t have to be Democrats.”

Chance clarified that his original comment was in response to the backlash fellow musician Kanye West was receiving for praising Trump, and does not mean that he agrees with his politics.

“Kanye West is not just a mentor or a big homie to me. He’s my family,” he said in a longer statement posted to Twitter. “No matter how much I may disagree with him, it’s hard for me to watch people talk about someone I love–even if they were justified in doing so.”

“I didn’t speak up because I agreed with Kanye … or cause I f— with Trump, I did it because I wanted to help my friend.”

“I’d never support anyone who has made a career out of hatred, racism and discrimination,” he wrote, pointing specifically to comments that Trump and other conservative figures have made about Chicago’s crime rates. “I’d never support someone who’d talk about Chicago as if it’s hell on earth and then take steps to make life harder here for the most disenfranchised among us.”
He apologized for what he said were “poorly timed comments, and added that it is his “job to pick up the phone” and talk to West about the comments rather than defend him online.

“We have to talk honestly about what is happening and has been happening in this country and we have to challenge those who are responsible, as well as those who are giving them a pass,” he wrote.

Chance said that West’s comments are “being used to discredit” black political activists.

West, who met with the president at Trump Tower following his election, praised Trump on Wednesday, saying they were both “dragon energy.”

Trump has thanked West more than once since, tweeting Friday that he “has performed a great service to the Black Community.”
