Conservative Hugh Hewitt Just Said The Solution To School Shootings Is Banning Trench Coats
MSNBC host and conservative commentator Hugh Hewitt claimed on Monday that schools need to ban trench coats in order to stop mass shootings from happening.
Republicans continue to come up with different answers to solving mass shootings and none of them include gun control.
Hewitt suggested during “The Hugh Hewitt Show” on Salem Radio Network on Monday that because the shooter who killed 10 people at a Texas high school last week was wearing a trench coat then schools should ban trench coats to solve the problem.
The conservative said that universal background checks and a ban on assault-style weapons will not help prevent mass shootings.
“Point being, this is about identifying and segregating individuals away from guns who are not in the position to own them with due process protection,” Hewitt said.
He then said that officials and politicians should notice those red flags.
“To the teachers and administrators out there, the trench coat is kind of a giveaway. You might just say no more trench coats. The creepy people, make a list, check it twice,” Hewitt said.
“And be aware of your social media activities. And ask people, the old cliche does apply, ‘see something, say something,’ ” Hewitt added.
Hewitt then said what any Republican would say at this time – shut up, do nothing and pray.
“There’s a pattern, pattern recognition is important here. And people need to put down the rhetoric and pick up the study,” Hewitt said. “And read, listen, pray, think, not just shout. That’s the easiest thing to do, just to shout.”
