Appearing on Fox News Friday, Republican congressman Darrell Issa said that special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into President Donald Trump needs to end soon because it may be distracting Trump from his important job of keeping America safe.
Talking with host Harris Faulkner, Issa suggested that Mueller’s probe is too much of a burden on Trump, while noting that such a burden should instead fall on members of Congress, which is conducting its own investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential elections.
“Congress needs to get to the bottom of it, I’m not objecting to that,” he said. “But the difference of 535 members of the House and Senate’s time, versus the one person who must keep us safe by being the chief executive, the chief of security and the chief of the military.”
Issa then praised Trump for being able to keep the country safe despite being under investigation for potentially colluding with Russian government officials during the 2016 presidential campaign.
“I’ll tell you, I’m glad that the president has been able to bifurcate this problem and all the important things he’s doing,” he said.
