Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) appeared on CNN on Tuesday where he claimed that Donald Trump’s trade war with multiple allies will cause the country to go into a recession, but he refused to blame Trump’s tariffs are the reason for it.
CNN’s Poppy Harlow questioned the lawmaker over past statements he made about Trump needing to end this trade war to avoid falling into another economic plunge.
Davidson went on to contradict himself by claiming that, “I don’t blame President Trump.”
“How can you not blame the president for a policy that you say will cause a recession if it’s not ended?” she asked.
“Well, I think the strategy has got big — I look at it a little as military guy, a little bit like friendly fire,” he said. “We want to make sure we don’t do things that hurt American companies. The uniform tariffs are hurting American companies.”
