On Wednesday a gunman opened fire during a congressional baseball practice and shot at multiple GOP lawmakers, sending GOP Rep. Steve Scalise to the hospital.
According to Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán (D-Calif.), multiple Democratic House lawmakers received threatening phone calls following the shooting, saying, “You guys are next,”BuzzFeed reported Wednesday.
Barragán told BuzzFeed that during a members-only security briefing, Democratic representatives said they got phone calls on their personal phones, receiving similar threats.
According to BuzzFeed, Barragán herself did not receive threatening calls, but “other Democratic members expressed concern that they were getting calls saying, ‘You Democrats, you Democrats’ ”
Barragán did not disclose who received the calls for safety reasons.
Also according to the report, multiple Republicans also received threats.
The office of Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.) said they received a “disturbing” email that read: “One down, 216 to go…”
The person who sent the email began by asking, ”Did you NOT expect this?”
“Did you NOT expect this? When you take away ordinary peoples very lives in order to pay off the wealthiest among us, your own lives are forfeit. Certainly, your souls and morality were lost long before. Good riddance,” the email said.
