Trump Punishes Working Americans With New Draconian Proposal To Gut Safety Net Programs

Donald Trump’s new budget proposal is as heartless as he is. Trump is set to cut $1.7 trillion in food stamps, children’s health insurance, Social Security Disability Insurance and other social safety net programs. To makes things worse, the budget cut is part of Trump’s plan to pay for his tax cuts to the wealthy.

According to Axios:

“Where the entitlement cuts are made: From programs including SNAP (food stamps), CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program), and SSDI (Disability Insurance). The budget proposal will also assume that Trump can sign into law the American Health Care Act — the Obamacare repeal and replace bill that passed the House and is now being considered by the Senate. That bill makes substantial cuts to Medicaid.”

According to The Washington Post, “An average of 44 million people received SNAP benefits in 2016, down from a peak of 47 million in 2013. Just 28 million people received the benefits in 2008.”

Trump said soon after being sworn into office, “We want to get our people off welfare and back to work. . . . It’s out of control.”

Trump’s new tax cuts would directly benefit the wealthiest Americans, as Trump has proposing cutting the estate tax, capital gains and business tax rates.

“The indications are strong this budget will feature Robin-Hood-in-reverse policies in an unprecedented scale,” said Robert Greenstein, president of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
