El Paso Congresswoman Slams Trump On Twitter After He Ignored Her Calls After Mass Shooting

Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he will be traveling to El Paso, Texas after 22 people were killed by an open shooter at a local Walmart last week despite the city telling him he’s not welcome.

Shortly after Trump’s announcement Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX) tried to get in contact with the president to send him a message but Trump only ignored her.

“I requested a phone call with him today in order to share what I have now heard from many constituents, including some who are victims of Saturday’s attack,” Escobar tweeted on Tuesday.

“My message would’ve been that he needs to understand that his words are powerful and have consequences. Using racist language to describe Mexicans, immigrants and other minorities dehumanize us. Those words inflame others,” she said.

“I was told that Trump is ‘too busy’ to have that conversation,” Escobar said.
