FBI Director Just Revealed Truth Behind Brett Kavanaugh Investigation
FBI Director Christopher Wray contradicted Donald Trump’s claims that he would allow the FBI to question anyone as part of the bureau’s investigation into the sexual assault accusations against Brett Kavanaugh.
He confirmed on Wednesday that the White House set up a lot of obstacles in their investigation into Kavanaugh’s accusations and limited the scope of the probe.
During a Senate hearing, Wray was asked by Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) questions about the investigation, to which he said, “the investigation was very specific in scope, limited in scope” and that the White House had set these strict parameters for the probe.
The FBI investigation was initiated when Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) said he would vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation only if there was an investigation with “limited scope.”
This didn’t settle well with Democrats who complained that the investigation was too restricted to come up with a conclusion.
The Democrats’ backlash caused Trump to say that “The FBI should interview anybody that they want within reason, but you have to say within reason.”
Harris attempted to get a few answers from Wray about the investigation. She asked him who exactly instructed them to keep the investigation so limited, he didn’t answer. She asked him if he would commit to turning over to the Senate documentation of any written instructions the White House had given the FBI about the investigation, he refused. And Harris also asked if the FBI had looked into whether Kavanaugh lied to the Senate during his hearing.
Wray said, “That’s not something I can discuss here.”
