Florida Cop Sentenced To 15 Years In Prison For Series Of Bizarre Crimes Against Elderly Woman
This is perhaps the most bizarre crime I’ve ever reported. Just try to picture this: A Florida cop befriends an elderly woman who later discovers he had been forging checks in her name. The woman tries to file charges, so the cop has the woman committed to a mental hospital and then tries to murder her when she is released.
A former sheriff’s deputy has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after he was arrested by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office on a series of charges including Attempted Murder.
According to a report published in the Sheriff’s Office website, detectives arrested 47-year-old Frankie Eugene Bybee after discovering he initiated a relationship with an elderly woman for both his personal and financial gain.
Bybee used the victim’s bank accounts to make several cash withdrawals and her checkbook to author several fraudulent checks addressed to himself and his children. On January 12, deputies were called to the victim’s home where, through investigation, they learned Bybee tried to kill her and make it appear to be a suicide.
Following a two-week jury trial, on October 6, Bybee was found guilty on 12 charges including Kidnapping, Exploitation of the Elderly and Fraudulent Use of Personal Identification.
In a sentencing hearing Thursday afternoon, Charlotte Circuit Court Judge Donald Mason sentenced Bybee to a total of 15 years in prison followed by 10 years of probation.
