Florida Sees Blue Wave, Gillum Leads DeSantis After The Republican’s Racist Attack: Poll

Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis, who called his Democratic opponent in Florida’s gubernatorial race a “monkey,” now finds himself down by five points to Democrat Andrew Gillum, according to the first publicly released poll since the state’s primary elections on Tuesday.

According to Public Policy Polling (PPP) who surveyed voters from August 29-30, Gillum leads DeSantis 48 to 43 percent overall.

The poll also showed that among independents – a massive voting bloc in the state of Florida – Gillum leads DeSantis by 34 points.

DeSantis, who endorsed Donald Trump, could find himself in a deeper hole after the PPP survey also found that the state of Florida finds the U.S. president unfavorable.

According to the poll, among Florida voters at 46 percent approve of Trump, while his disapproval is slightly higher at 49 percent.
