GOP Lawmaker Says Trump’s Own Military Would Disobey His Orders If He Wanted War Crimes Committed
Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) appeared on CNN on Tuesday and said that the United States military will not obey orders from Donald Trump if he went through with his threat to commit war crimes.
CNN’s Jim Sciutto asked Bacon if it would be appropriate to defy the Hague Convention that the United States signed more than a half-century ago by attacking Iran’s cultural sites.
“We will not respond that way,” Bacon said. “But the president’s communicated to Iran that they better weigh what they do next very carefully, or we will hit them twice as hard.”
“The president will not order an attack on the cultural sites,” Bacon added. “But even if he did, the military would not do it. We will follow the laws of our conflict.”
