Republican Congressman Chris Stewart (Utah) held a town hall meeting this week and things quickly went south after he told constituents they can’t impeach President Trump “just because he lies”
“You can’t impeach a president because you don’t like him — and that’s what some of you would do,” Stewart said at the meeting, in response to the very first audience question, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.
Stewart’s response prompted a constant barrage of jeers from the crowd through the event. Half of the few questions he answered were about Trump, the newspaper reported.
One woman sparred with Stewart over the alleged affair Trump had with an adult film star. She claimed previous presidents had been impeached for less.
“Do you think we should impeach every president who lies?” Stewart said, adding that lying can’t be the “threshold.”
Stewart reportedly even threatened to leave part way through the event, as the audience repeatedly booed him while trying to answer their questions, according to the report.
