GOP Lawmakers May Have Violated Government Ethics Rules By Using RNC Funds To Attend UFC Fight With Trump
The Republican National Committee spent $60,000 this past weekend to send Donald Trump and his crew to attend the UFC mixed martial arts match at Madison Square Garden. Trump’s group of friends included his children and several Republican lawmakers.
“The price included the ringside seats for Trump and his guests, catering and security, one of the officials said. The president’s guests included House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Reps. Mark Meadows (R-NC) and Peter T. King (R-NY), all Republican allies, along with his two adult sons,” The Washington Post reported.
According to ethics rules, members of the U.S. House of Representatives are allowed to take free tickets to sporting events only if it’s a fundraiser. This weekend’s fight was most definitely not a fundraiser or a campaign event. So if these lawmakers want to avoid being slapped with an ethics complaint, they should really consider paying the RNC back.
