Republican Senator Nicholas Kettle is spending the weekend in jail after being arrested on Friday on a count of video voyeurism and two counts of extortion, according to WPRI.
According to the report, the investigation started after the Rhode Island senator left his iPad at his former girlfriend’s house where she found unauthorized pictures of her in it. She then filed a complaint with the police.
Kettle is expected to spend the whole weekend at the Adult Correctional Institution in Cranston.
According to his defense attorney, Paul DiMaio, Kettle is “terrified.”
“It is deeply troubling that a member of the Senate has been indicted on charges of video voyeurism and extortion,” Senate President Dominick Ruggerio (D-Providence) said in a statement. “Based on what we know at this time, I believe that Mr. Kettle should resign immediately.”
The Republican leader of the state Senate also urged Kettle to quit.
“Based upon what I’m reading and seeing and hearing, Sen. Kettle should resign immediately,” Sen. Dennis Algiere (R-Westerly) said.
