Governor Greg Abbott Has Just OFFICIALLY Removed Planned Parenthood From Texas’ Medicaid Program

When it comes to pro-choice most Republicans are against it. Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott is one of those many Republicans that are against Planned Parenthood. And over a year ago he vowed to remove Planned Parenthood’s $3.1 million in Medicaid funding. This was because of the release of fraudulent videos that supposedly showed Planned Parenthood officials illegally trafficking fetal tissue.

Now that vow has become true. The Texas Tribute has reported that the state of Texas has sent out a final legal notice to Planned Parenthood, informing them that the Medicaid funding will be terminated within the next 30 days.

Back in 2013, the Texas House had passed a controversial HB2 Bill, which drastically cut down the number of abortion clinics in Texas. This has had a huge effect on the health of women in Texas. The Texas Policy Evaluation Project found that as much as 240,000 women in Texas have attempted abortions on themselves since the bill was passed in 2013.

“Texas is a cautionary tale for the rest of the nation. With this action, the state is doubling down on reckless policies that have been absolutely devastating for women,” Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards said.

Abbott first sent a notice of his intentions to due away with the Planned Parenthood program in October 2015. This notice was due to the scandalous videos that were produced by anti-abortion activists. They released falsified video footage of Planned Parenthood personnel negotiation the illegal sale of fetal tissue. The videos were investigated by 13 different states, which all cleared Planned Parenthood of any wrong doing.

Now, thanks to the defunding of Planned Parenthood, thousands of low-income families living in Texas will be left without access to routine healthcare check-ups, cancer screenings, birth control and any other forms of preventative care.
