House Dems Just Revealed How They Will Take Trump Down, It’s Bulletproof
Donald Trump’s worst nightmare came true when Democrats flipped 38 House seats and took back the majority.
Democrats do not plan on holding back on Trump and revealed on Tuesday that they will be conducting an investigation of Trump’s finances once they take over the House of Representatives next year. They plan on obtaining decades’ worth of Trump’s tax returns.
Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. (D-NJ) told The Washington Post that he wants to get several years’ worth of Trump’s taxes to fully comprehend his finances.
Specifically, Pascrell says that he’d “like to go back 15 to 20 years, and I don’t say that haphazardly, because we want to know how involved he was” in certain shady business deals.
According to the Post, Democrats plan on using “a little-known 1924 provision in the Internal Revenue Code” that requires the Treasury secretary to deliver the tax returns of any individual if requested by the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, the Senate Finance Committee or the Joint Committee on Taxation.
If Democrats go along with their plan, Trump is likely to challenge it in court and demand that Congress deliver a legal justification for what would essentially be a subpoena of the president’s taxes.
But Democrats are ready for the legal battle as Pascrell says that they plan to cite “potential conflicts of interest” created by Trump’s dealings with foreign governments.
