In Desperate Move, Trump Tries To Drag Obama Into His Mess
During a rambling press conference that lasted more than an hour Wednesday, President Donald Trump again compared himself to the 44th President, asserting that former President Barack Obama was on the verge of initiating a conflict that could have escalated into a world war.
Trump kicked things off by rambling about China, but predictably, the first question was about the mounting sexual assault allegations against his Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. From there, things went sharply off a cliff.
During questioning, Trump couldn’t stop sniffing his way through his answers, which were largely incoherent. At one point he began theorizing that George Washington probably had skeletons in his closet, and that might have been his most lucid answer.
Things got even more bizarre when Trump answered a question about Brett Kavanaugh by going into a rant on a rant about Cuba, and attacking “President Bama.” Yup, he pronounced Obama’s name wrong as he randomly accused the former president of having had his finger on the trigger to start a catastrophic war with North Korea.
“If I wasn’t elected, you’d be in a war,” Trump declared, seeking to bolster his claim by implying that Obama had “essentially” told him so directly.
“President Obama thought you had to go to war. You know how close he was to pressing the trigger,” Trump said at the press conference, adding that “not thousands … millions of people would have been killed” in what “could have been a world war.”
Trump then went on a rant about Cuba, and began attacking “President Bama.” No really, he pronounced Obama’s name wrong. Somewhere in there he randomly accused Obama of having had his finger on the button to start an unspecified war. At one point Trump began ranting about “Mr. Pillsbury,” and while he was referring to a real person, his performance up to that point was so deranged, people just assumed he was referring to the Pillsbury Dough Boy.
Trump’s comments that prompted immediate pushback from national security officials who worked in the previous administration, saying that Trump’s assertion is simply untrue.
“The Department of Defense always looks at contingencies, but the Obama administration was consistently of the belief — informed by the best thinking and analysis from our intelligence community, war fighters, and diplomats — that diplomacy was the only viable option given what we knew would be catastrophic implications of a conflict on the Peninsula,” Ned Price, a national security council spokesperson in the Obama White House, said in a statement to CNN.
One thing is certain: we just witnessed a man having some sort of psychotic break in front of the television cameras for all the world to see.
Today, Donald Trump proved what we already knew: he’s mentally incompetent. Not only should he be impeached, but he should also seek psychiatric help.
