During Obama’s presidency, he signed an executive order known as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which gave undocumented immigrants, who were brought here as children, a work permit and assurance that they would not be deported. The law took place in 2012 and has helped over 750,000 immigrants.
But in Donald Trump’s America it doesn’t seem to matter if you are part of the DACA program, you still run the risk of being deported. A report by Reuters stated that 23-year-old Daniel Ramirez Medina was conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers who originally showed up at Ramirez’s residence to arrest the man’s father.
Ramirez cam to the United States as a kid, he has grown up here and considers himself American, just like every other “Dreamer” out there. The report also states that Ramirez has filed a legal challenge to his detention on Monday, arguing that the action was illegal due to his legitimate work permit. He also does not have a criminal record.
Trump has vowed to remove “the bad” illegal immigrants from this country, yet he’s using his power to tear families apart. Innocent people are being taken out of their homes and ripped away from their families.
Ethan Dettmer, an attorney representing Ramirez, said that he hopes “this detention was a mistake.”
This just shows exactly how much of a xenophobe Trump is. This is unAmerican and unconstitutional.
