‘It Had To Be Very Simple’: EU Officials Had To Dumb Down Trade Talks With Trump – Report
European Union officials flew down to Washington D.C. this week to negotiate a trade treaty with Donald Trump. The only problem? – Trump had no idea what they were presenting. According to a new report, the EU officials had to present Trump with a very simple presentation because they couldn’t present him with large sets of complicated information.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the EU representatives had to use “colorful cue cards” so that they could grasp Trump’s attention during the meetings.
Each card contained “simplified explainers” that “had at most three figures about a specific topic, such as trade in cars or standards for medical devices.”
One of the officials spoke with the WSJ and said that they knew they had to dumb things down for Trump because this wasn’t a typical meeting with a world leader.
“We knew this wasn’t an academic seminar,” the official says. “It had to be very simple.”
