John Kasich Sends Message To Ohio Republicans: ‘I Didn’t Vote For Trump’

Ohio Gov. John Kasich voted Monday but he didn’t cast a vote for the Republican nominee Donald Trump. Instead, Kasich wrote in John McCain’s name at the top of the ticket on his absentee ballot, reported The Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Kasich, who ran against Trump for the Republican nomination, has been a prominent critic ever since dropping out of the race in May and had vowed not to vote for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. But he had not previously said who he planned to support instead.

Trump has lashed out at Kasich for declining to endorse him after the Republican primary ended. Kasich, like other GOP rivals for the nomination, signed a pledge promising to back the Republican nominee at the primary’s conclusion.

After video surfaced last month of Trump speaking of women in lewd and sexually aggressive terms, Kasich confirmed the New York businessman had lost his vote.

“Donald Trump is a man I cannot and should not support,” Kasich said in an Oct. 8 statement. “The actions of the last day are disgusting, but that’s not why I reached this decision, it has been an accumulation of his words and actions that many have been warning about. I will not vote for a nominee who has behaved in a manner that reflects so poorly on our country. Our country deserves better.”
