John Kelly Throws The Towel, Doesn’t Care If Trump Is Impeached And Is Letting Him Dig His Own Grave: Report

Let’s face it, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly has not lived up to the hype. In spite of the chatter when Kelly replaced Reince Priebus as chief of staff less than a year ago that he would serve as some sort of Trump wrangler and the “adult in the room”, the retired general has often struggled in his position and has become embroiled in a number of scandals. Now, according to a new report by Politico, Kelly has given up on any hope of shaping Donald Trump’s presidency and is just running out the clock.

According to the report, Kelly and Trump are “barely tolerating one another,” and Kelly has even resigned himself to the possibility of Trump being impeached:

“He has told at least one person close to him that he may as well let the president do what he wants, even if it leads to impeachment — at least this chapter of American history would come to a close.”

When Kelly replaced Reince Priebus as chief of staff less than a year ago, there were high hopes that he would be able to rein in the president and get the White House under control. But whatever hopes there were for Kelly, or whatever aspirations Kelly had for himself, appear to have dissipated. Kelly has reportedly become so disengaged that he’s taken to making his gym trips a daytime event.

As told by Politico:

“In recent months, his Secret Service detail has often been spotted standing outside the gym in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in the middle of the day — and White House officials who pass it on the way to meetings view his late morning workouts as an indication of him having thrown in the towel on trying to have any control inside the West Wing.”

According to NBC News, Kelly has often slammed the president in private, calling him an “idiot” while criticizing Trump’s lack of grasp on policy and government. In James Comey’s book A Higher Loyalty, the former FBI director said Kelly called him when he was fired and told him he was “sick” over the matter and referred to Trump as “dishonorable.”
