Judge Hammers Terrorist In Cliven Bundy Standoff With 68-Year Prison Sentence

Gregory Burleson, 53-year-old male who participated in the 2014 armed standoff between federal agents and supporters of rancher Cliven Bundy, was sentenced on Wednesday to 68 years in prison despite please from his lawyer.

According to the LA Times, Burleson’s lawyer Terrence Jackson tried to persuade the federal court that Burleson did not belong in prison.

First, Jackson told the court that his client’s blindness and age would make him vulnerable in prison. Jackson also said that Burleson was an alcoholic and it was not in his full conscience to participate in the standoff.

Jackson went on to say that his clients age was also a factor and should have a reduced sentence.

But, Burleson knew what he was doing. Him and Todd Engel were both found guilty of crimes including assaulting a federal officer, obstruction of justice and interstate travel to aid extortion.

According to Jackson, Burleson is being subjected to “essentially a life sentence.” But, Burleson has accepted his fate.

“He knew it was coming,” Jackson said.

Engel’s sentence is scheduled in September.
