JUST IN: Rick Gates’ lawyer Met With Mueller Twice Last Week, Signaling Potential Cooperation In Russia Probe
Recent news revealed that special counsel Robert Mueller met with Attorney General Jeff Sessions and questioned him for hours, now a new report states that Mueller met with former Donald Trump aide Rick Gates’ lawyer twice last week.
According to CNN, the meetups could be signaling a potential cooperation with Mueller’s ongoing investigation.
According to the CNN report, Gates has retained attorney Tom Green to represent him in negotiating with Mueller.
Gates, who was indicted alongside former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort last October, could be looking to cooperate in Mueller’s investigation as he’s at risk for superseding indictments from the special counsel, which would tack on additional charges beyond those of money laundering and failing to register as an agent of a foreign government.
Green has not declined but has not confirmed that he represents Gates. CNN reports that he’s “one of the biggest names in Washington’s white-collar defense world.”
“If I were in trouble, I’d call out to somebody like Tom,” white-collar lawyer Carol Bruce said.
