JUST IN: Trump’s Lawyer Hand-Delivered Michael Flynn A Secret Plan To Lift Russian Sanctions
New York Times reported on Sunday that Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, hand-delivered a “peace” plan for Russia and Ukraine to former national security adviser Michael Flynn before Flynn was asked to resign.
This “peace” plan included lifting sanctions on Russia, which were drafted by Cohen and Felix Sater, a Russian-American real estate developer who has helped the Trump Organization scout deals in Russia.
Saster had said once before to the Washington Post that he “handled all of the negotiations” for the Trump Organization’s dealings in Russia.
Saster and Cohen met in a hotel lobby with Ukrainian lawmaker Andrii V. Artemenko, who was also involved in drafting the proposal. The Times said they were there to draw up the proposal, which Cohen claimed was aimed at “bringing about peace” between Ukraine and Russia.
Trump has hinted before that he has planned to lift the Russian sanctions. “If you get along and if Russia is really helping us,” Trump told the Wall Street Journal last month, “why would anybody have sanctions if somebody’s doing some really great things?”
Cohen has been accused of having close ties to Russia. Former British spy Christopher Steele said that Cohen was part of the “ongoing secret liaison relationship between the New York tycoon’s campaign and the Russian leadership,” and that he met secretly with Kremlin officials in Prague in August 2016.
The FBI is currently pursuing three separate investigations into Russia for their interference in the 2016 election. They are also looking into phone calls that were made between the Trump organization and Russian officials during the campaign.
