A Massachusetts City Just Filed a Motion For Trump Impeachment Probe
In a move that has sent shock waves across Capitol Hill, the city of Cambridge, Massachusetts, has filed a policy order for Monday’s city council meeting calling for an impeachment investigation into president Donald Trump, the Associated Press reported.
The proposed order, filed by Vice Mayor Marc McGovern, calls on the U.S. House to back a resolution directing the Judiciary Committee to investigate whether there are grounds to impeach Trump.
According to the report, McGovern and others believe Trump has violated the emoluments clause of the U.S. Constitution that prohibits government officials from profiting from foreign businesses.
Trump is already facing several lawsuits for violating the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution.
In February, an ethics group filed a federal lawsuit claiming President Trump is violating the Constitution by accepting payments from foreign governments through his business empire.
The group of legal scholars, ethics lawyers, and money in politics experts are suing President Trump for his refusal to divest from his businesses and getting cash and favors from foreign governments in exchange for access to his administration.
